國立中山大學政治學研究所舉辦2020年「E-Society網路社會國際研討會」

Human societies have witnessed dramatic changes the past decade following the birth of the first smart phone in 2007. The adoption of new technology and mobile services has lead to behavior and mindset changes at both the individual and aggregate levels. Issues ranging from how individuals express and present themselves, communicate with strong and weak ties, and selectively comprehend information to how political actors campaign for office and then govern the public have gone far beyond what individual scholars, institutes, or disciplines could handle well. “E-Society” research then has been representing a concept that echoes such dramatic demand for identifying changes at a variety of aspects that are worth our attention and action.

This bi-annual conference of E-society research has become a platform for scholars of conventional and emerging disciplines to exchange first-hand observation and fruits of research addressing ongoing issues with this regard. This conference aims at facilitating trans-disciplinary collaboration on problem identification, mechanism description, and solution discovery. We welcome scholars who have been investigating political, social, psychological, and mental issues concerning the widespread use of the Internet, mobile devices, and social media, to meet and brainstorm at the Sizihwan Beach at National Sun Yat-Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Building on the 2018 theme that focused on democracy and societal changes, the theme of this year is “Crisis Accelerated? Problems and Solutions that We Should Care” that leads us to focus more on

Evaluating lasting issues
Identifying emerging concerns
Sharing possible and noteworthy solutions and practices

This year’s two-day conference will be composed of two keynote addresses plus presentation of 20+ selected papers. There will be no parallel sessions so all attendants will be participating in cross-disciplinary conversations, contributing expertise from their own fields, and taking insights from observers from other fields.
